As time goes by, our eyes suffer adverse changes. Times makes the eyes more tired or older. Many factors such as heredity or sun damage can accelerate these changes. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) has in recent years great progress.
Looking tired or swollen eyes can also result from the presence of pockets of fat source in the inner part of the upper eyelids or lower eyelids. These excess skin and fat can be removed surgically by a procedure called blepharoplasty.
What is a blepharoplasty?
This intervention is to make the upper eyelids or lower. It is often preferable to intervene globally, even in conjunction with a facelift or neck frontal facial. An ophthalmic assessment you will be asked to verify that there is no indication against the surgery.
The upper eyelid
Who can benefit?
Individuals who have upper eyelids too heavy, sad eyes, forming a fold of skin at the outer corner (side of cap), while weighing on eyelashes and hindering the opening of the eyes or at least a stage, making it difficult makeup. This can be exacerbated by a pocket of fat in the corner. The surgeon should explain the difference between the eyebrows fall, causing the upper eyelid, which is cumbersome and justifiable to front a facelift, and a real excess of upper eyelid, to justify a simple blepharoplasty.
The major concern is to correct the defects without changing the expression of regard. That is why surgeons remove less skin now to avoid any appearance of eye hollow reinforcement side edges protruding eyes, especially in cases of exophthalmos.
How is practiced upper blepharoplasty?
The incision is performed in a natural crease in the palm of the eyelid, the scar is invisible, except at the outside, placed in a fold of the feet, which fade in a few months. Through this incision, excess skin is removed, and the orbicularis muscle hypertrophy and fat responsible for the swelling around the nose. This intervention, which lasts between 45 minutes and 1 hour, will be performed under local anesthesia or, more often, with a relaxation intravenously. The hospital does not exceed a few hours. It is an ambulatory surgery. A stoppage of 1 to 2 weeks is usually required.
FOLLOW-UPS
For 2 to 3 days we may feel discomfort when you close your eyes. They may become more sensitive to light or tearing. There are bruises and sometimes higher than that persist 8 to 10 days.
Sutures are removed on the 5th day and the makeup becomes possible. Sun protection is essential during the first six months.
What are the side effects?
They are always possible during surgery, even with a very experienced surgeon.
Hematoma which justifies its evacuation;
Printing conjunctivitis with a little irritation of the cornea;
Printing dry eye;
The patient should be warned of telangiectasias (dilated blood vessels, forming small red lines under the skin) which may become more apparent as the skin of the upper eyelid was stretched;
Similarly, micro cysts can temporarily make granular scar.
